What is Down to Utopia?
Whenever I look at a magazine, website, support group or anything that has to do with mental health or ending, erasing, or effecting stigma, I analyze it from a few stand points. First, I ask if it is filling a gap? It usually is when it comes to severe mental illness and giving people a voice, advocating change or supporting family members. I then ask myself if it is something I can relate to?
Most of the time it does not.
There is nothing wrong with this, but I do wonder where are the full time sites and communities dedicated to women which do not place us in one of very few boxes. Where are the sites for women who work, have relationships, have children or are thinking of having children? Where are the sites for women who are living single and loving it or anywhere in between, or women who just want to sometimes read an article, chime in, and feel like they can relate to the person on the page in front of them? Women who have a first name instead of the name of their illness. Women like you.
Ending stigma is a huge job, but starting with you is the biggest beginning. Don’t be silent, we need your voice.
